So…What Exactly Do You Do?

Rob hears this question all the time. I’m really posting this for the sake of family history, but if you’re interested in finding out what exactly Rob does, feel free to check out his current resume. Just keep in mind, it may not actually answer your question…

Ogden Arts Festival

A few weekends ago we visited the Ogden Arts Festival.

The kids got balloon animals,

made their own masks,

and tried cotton candy for the first time.

We’re nerds…

Elizabeth – A Beautiful Bride

Elizabeth got married last month and we were thrilled to be able to take her bridal portraits. She is SO beautiful. We love photographing her because she is so easy going and natural. She knows how to work the camera and is super sweet on top of it all.

A few lovely details.

These pictures are some of our favorites of all time. We were just about to go when we decided to do some fun, fairytale-esque pictures peeking out from the shrubs. At that moment, the light became MAGICAL. We spent the next 10 minutes shooting as fast as we could in order to capture the moment before the sun set and the magic was over. It was so perfect that the images are very minimally processed; what you see is what we saw. So great!

We love you, Liz!

Northern Adventure

On memorial day we were itching to get out of the house. Because of weather we reduced the scope of our plans and confined our wanderings to Northern Utah.  Our first stop was the Bear River Bird Refuge west of Brigham City. We snuck in on the last day before it closed for the summer (road repair). There were a lot of cool birds to see there including small, large, yellow, and other birds (you can tell I’m well versed in all things bird). Here is an video of a whole family of birds if you are interested. After driving in a little further we were overwhelmed with bugs (I’m talking biblical proportions). It was fun to watch the family panic as I threatened to roll down the windows. :) If anyone can recommend a time of year when the bugs are not as prevalent that would be very helpful.

The next stop was ATK near Promontory – Makers of the solid rocket boosters for the space shuttle.

Please enjoy these images of the family inside a rear segment of the solid rocket booster. We’re totally cool like that; first, we send our names into space, second, we play inside solid rocket boosters. :)

We even made a few videos of our fun in the solid rocket boosters.  These are wonderful so I do suggest watching them. If you can’t see them, try here, here, and here to view them in the web gallery.

We finished the day off with a stop at the Golden Spike Museum!  The two locomotives were running and we got to see both of them move.  If you want to see one of the engines move click here to see the video in the web gallery. The steam made for some cool images.  I love the one below.

We also took a moment to make sure we had some pictures of the family. After the trains had parked we went for a walk on the track to get away from the crowds. I forgot to bring a tripod so we took turns.  :)

It was a wonderful day and full of adventure.  If you’d like to see a little more then visit the web gallery here.

My Kids in the Water

Just a few pics of the kids on (or around) the slip ‘n slide. Turns out Mad isn’t too keen on getting wet, just like her mom. Nate, on the other hand, hasn’t even had a chance to dry out so far this summer.

Water. So refreshing at arms-length.   Ahhhh. Summer.

It’s 3:33 AM

The last few days I’ve been sick with a cold. Not just any cold, but a knock-you-out-cold cold. I haven’t been able to do anything at all. Rob’s been so, so great. He’s been with the kids nonstop, cooked, cleaned, and taken care of me. He’s my superhero. Before I got sick I was starting to feel sorry for myself because it seemed everything was harder than it should be. But now, I’m just grateful to be able to see straight, let alone grateful for all of my other blessings. There’s nothing like illness to put things into perspective.

This morning my cough was worse and my belly was sore from all of the jerking so I finally gave in to strong cough syrup. My body doesn’t accept medication lightly AT ALL and this time was no exception. I took 3/4 of a dose and sure enough, a 1/2 hour later I was gone. I slept for two hours and then my head still felt like a hundred pounds. Everything around me swayed. I was like that for the rest of the afternoon. So now I’m awake.

My mind is functioning for the first time since Wednesday and is too active for sleep. It’s going to make for a long day tomorrow. But like I said, I’m just grateful to be able to see straight (and for my ever-precious husband*).

*Side Note: Rob’s always been exceptional at taking care of me when I’ve been sick. Right after we got engaged I had my wisdom teeth pulled and I was a M.E.S.S. Like I said, I don’t take medicine lightly so we’re talking delusion, drooling, down-right depths of neediness and he stayed by my side for days. He fed me, changed my bloody gauze, and hid my pills so I wouldn’t have an accidental overdose. After I was back to my normal self my mom said, “Yep, Julie, you can marry him. I know he will always take care of you.” And he has. Awwwwwwwwwww.

A Few Blips to Remember

  • When Madeleine doesn’t want to do something, she says, “My too sick.”
  • With 4 months to go, I feel like my hips are crumbling.
  • I got such a lovely feeling watching Rob put together the kids’ bikes last night. Best. Dad. Ever.
  • Rob’s at Youth Conference tonight so I think I’ll take advantage of the situation and take up the entire bed diagonally.
  • I have all these projects swimming around in my head but don’t have the means or energy to do any of them.
  • Last night I sat on the couch with a pillow behind my back. I was aching. I lifted my shirt to check out my belly and found something strange. It was bulging in a hard, bumpy way. Right at the surface under my paper-thin skin. It morphed. The weirdest thing is that it WASN’T the baby!! Internal organs are my only guess since I’m almost positive I have a hernia. Since my skin and muscles are already so stretched, I’m mortified that my baby is going to explode out the front of me before my 9 months is over. Pleasant thought…

On second thought, I don’t think I want to remember most of these blips.
